We recently got a look at the newly redesigned rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World. The recently completed soft goods update has created a bright, colorful, and comfy space in which you can relax.
Disney’s Pop Century Resort Updated Room – Video Tour
Disney’s Pop Century Resort is a value resort that recently underwent a renovation to update the soft goods’ aesthetics and materials. Pop Century was last renovated around 2019, when Disney removed a lot of the theming and color from their resorts. This update seems to be an attempt to bring back some of the rooms’ character, albeit not as wild as they were originally.
And because we’ve never formally done a Pop Century room tour, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to make up for lost time. Watch our full video review above and peruse our room tour gallery here.
Pop Century Resort Updated Room Tour
Walking in, you immediately notice that the walls have color. The initial post-renovation rooms were stark white — guests compared them to hospital rooms — so it’s a vast improvement to see this powder blue hue on some of the walls.
Our first impression of the overall vibe of the room is 1960s mid-century modern, which, while not bad, doesn’t really fit with the resort’s “decades” theme that encompasses the 1950s- 1990s.
Here is what the room looks like with the Murphy bed closed up and the desk and chairs in place.
The Murphy bed features comic-style pop art of Pluto snoozing on a pillow and dreaming of bones, surrounded by panels with different primary-colored patterns.
The chairs have been reupholstered in a bright, retro-inspired printed fabric, with hidden Mickeys within the pattern on the back.
Another big change is the floor. While it still has the faux wood, Disney has found a way to bring back theming without using carpeting. This section of flooring features colored and shaped paneling to provide the illusion of an area rug and, once again, add much-needed whimsy to the room.
On either side of the bed, you’ll find cubbies, plus the standard “Hey Disney” assistant module, room phone, outlets, and charging ports for both USB-C and standard.
More charging ports and outlets can be found above the dresser and below the TV.
Oh boy! The curtains now feature a silhouette of Mickey with his catchphrase in a thought bubble, against a background of red Ben-Day dots.
Pop Century finally earned in-room coffeemakers, but in our opinion, these Cuisinart coffeemakers are some of the absolute worst.
The room has the standard climate control you find in Disney resorts.
Inside the dresser, you’ll find a safe, a Bible, and plenty of shelves and drawers.
The bed frames aren’t new; wear and tear has caught up with them. However, we still appreciate that they’re raised enough that you can stow suitcases underneath and save valuable space.
Above the headboard is a framed Andy Warhol-inspired pop art triptych of Mickey Mouse in shades of red, yellow, and black, which existed prior to the renovation.
Behind the connecting door, you’ll find five hooks for hanging jackets and other items.
The compact bathroom has a sliding door that’s also showing signs of damage from age. Inside, you’ll find a small closet with a couple of shelves. There’s also a fold-down ironing board and a short pull-out clothes bar.
A cupboard contains a hairdryer while also providing a more private storage area for personal belongings. Otherwise, the standard bathroom accoutrements are all here.
Another sliding door separates the toilet and shower from the bathroom, but we noticed a distinct squealing and scraping sound when we used it.
The bathroom itself is unchanged, with slightly dingy lighting and an oppressive atmosphere, but this is a value resort. At least you still get the fan-favorite Sea Salt shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower.
