Monorail Lightning Incident

Passengers aboard the Walt Disney World monorail system were left stuck after a bolt of lightning struck the line.

Tanya Lee told Storyful that on September 8, 2026, she took the monorail to EPCOT when the train stopped due to a power outage, according to WFLA. It was then that Disney told the guests that they were working to get it fixed and were getting a tow to push the vehicle.

“We were on there for one and a half hours, and during that time the driver talked us through how to take out the window,” Lee said.

“I was nervous as I do not like heights, and I have always been worried about being stuck on one of those [monorails] when I ride them. Everyone was in good spirits, as there is not much you can do at that point. The people in the car I was in were upbeat despite the situation.”

Lee claimed that guest relations spoke with passengers once they exited the monorail and handed out water bottles, $50 Disney gift cards, and Lightning Lane passes.
