Every day, there’s a ton of Disney news that ends up all over the Internet, and it’s honestly often hard to discern what’s real, what’s speculation, and what’s just a rumor. There are SO many sites covering Disney news, too, that sometimes you don’t know who to trust. But you can trust us because we make sure we’re doing everything we can to give you the REAL news and honest facts.
Well, this week, some Disney rumors started hitting the Internet, and although some seem like they may be true, they’re not, while others are oversimplifying more complex announcements. So let’s take a look at what we’ve heard this week and figure out what’s what.
Matterhorn to be torn down and rebuilt? FAKE
We’re starting with the wildest thing we heard about this week. A rumor is spreading that Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds will be completely torn down and relocated as part of the Tomorrowland update project. Disney has confirmed that Tomorrowland will be reimagined, but the Matterhorn bit? Well, that’s just pretty much a rumor that someone came up with because the new version of Tomorrowland might need more space, and the Matterhorn is in the way.
Now, some have previously speculated that Matterhorn needs some kind of SOMETHING to make it smoother, as it is one of the roughest rides in Disneyland. But completely tearing it down to rebuild it? That seems like a bit MUCH, even given the budget Disneyland has for new lands and upgrades. A refurbishment might happen at some point. But completely moving the ride? Well, it’s not likely. But then again, we also thought Disney would never fix the Yeti on Expedition Everest, and here we are. Stranger things have happened.
Disney shutting down Expedition Everest? REAL (Sort Of)
Yes, there was a reason we just mentioned Expedition Everest because there is a rumor that the ride will be shutting down after 20 years. So here’s the thing: yes, Disney did say that it was fixing the Yeti on the ride, and from what we’ve learned about the technical issues that might revolve around fixing that animatronic, the ride will need to close…and it could be a pretty long closure.
So, technically, this is true, but not in the sense the initial rumor suggested. Expedition Everest will close, but it will reopen later with a brand new and (hopefully) working Yeti animatronic. Disney has not confirmed when the ride’s closure will take place, but we might guess it will happen after Pueblo Esperanza, the new land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opens in 2027.
Disney is buying Bluey? TBD
So another rumor we’ve seen circulating is that Disney will be buying the rights to Bluey. Now, Disney has already collaborated with Ludo Studio to bring Bluey to the parks, but this rumor popped up after Dana Walden, Disney’s president and chief creative officer, said she “would offer a lot of money” to Bluey’s creator, Joe Brumm, according to Bloomberg.
However, the full quote was more about Disney’s current relationship with the BBC, Bluey’s producer. What she said was this: “We have a great relationship with the BBC. We have been able to make great sense of this partnership, and Joe Brumm, who I would offer a lot of money to. He’s extraordinary and I will not let him get further off the Disney lot than he is currently.” However, that’s all that’s been said, and there’s nothing coming from Disney stating that buying Bluey is actually in the works.
Star Wars X, the next Skywalker Saga? TBD
Now the rumor about a new trilogy in the Skywalker Saga is a bit more complex than just the fact that a new Skywalker Saga is on the way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Watts, who directed the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, is attached to direct the first installment of a new Star Wars trilogy written by Simon Kinberg.
So here’s what we know: in 2023, Disney announced a Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy that would bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey. That film was supposed to pick up after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. However, if this is that same movie, a lot of the details have changed, including the director. Star Wars X, as folks are now calling it, is reportedly the next chapter in the Skywalker Saga, which means Rey could still appear in it. Now, here’s the thing: Lucasfilm has not confirmed a Star Wars X movie or trilogy, and nothing has been greenlit by Disney.
