ABC affiliates are not happy with Disney planning to offer multiple different ways to stream the 2027 Super Bowl.
Disney Super Bowl Streaming Options

It was first confirmed that Disney+ would stream the upcoming Super Bowl on its platform in addition to ESPN and ABC on October 7.
According to Alex Sherman of CNBS, ABC broadcast affiliates are upset over the prospects of Super Bowl LXI being shown on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, the NFL Network, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and streaming on Disney+.
Sherman also claims that showing the Super Bowl on this many networks “may drop advertising revenue associated with broadcast viewership by up to 35% compared to last year” and may result in lower viewership across platforms.
An anonymous affiliate station CEO also told Sherman, “Any time you fragment distribution, you’re destroying value for each of the individual platforms. I don’t have a problem with what Disney is doing — I have a problem that there’s no acknowledgement that we’re losing money.”
The turmoil caused by this situation is currently being discussed by the ABC Television Affiliates Association Board of Governors, and the chairman of the board as declined to make a statement.
A Disney spokesperson has made a statement to Sherman, saying, “Our ABC affiliates are important partners, and we always take that into careful consideration when making these decisions. We’ve successfully navigated similar situations in collaboration with the governing board many times before, and this is no different.”
