An Australian family is trying to get home after a dream Tokyo Disney Resort trip but will need upwards of $200,000 to do so.
Family Trying to Get Son Home After Tokyo Disney Vacation

Mel and Brad James took their three children to Tokyo Disney Resort for the “holiday of a lifetime.” The trip was particularly magical for their 18-year-old son Ryan, who has autism and is obsessed with Mickey Mouse.
Unfortunately, Ryan developed an “acute and overwhelming” fear of flying, although he has flown before without any issues. His distress, according to the family’s GoFundMe page, is so severe that he is unable to board a commercial aircraft to return home.
According to The Daily Mail, Ryan was deemed “unfit to fly” and has to obtain a special “fit to fly” certificate. He will then need to be sedated and transported home on a specialist medical flight.
The quoted cost, according to the family’s GoFundMe page is $300,000 Australian dollars, approximately $211,000 USD.
The Daily Mail previously reported a cost of $500,000. The family is attempting to raise $200,000 AUD in their fundraiser. They have raised $139,147 so far.
In addition to the medical flight, the family is facing mounting costs from accommodation and food expenses. Mel and Brad James sent their other two children home to stay with their grandmother while they remain in Tokyo with Ryan until he is able to travel.
Janelle Goulding, the organizer of their GoFundMe, wrote, “Ryan travelled to Japan to experience the magic of Disney and meet his beloved Mickey Mouse. Now, his family needs a little magic of their own.”
