The Hatbox Ghost has made it from the Haunted Mansion to a cupcake on Disney Cruise Line, complete with a custom box. We tried the Cake Bake Shop chocolate cupcake to see if the dessert itself lives up to its presentation.
Hatbox Ghost Cupcake (Chocolate) – $14.95

The Hatbox Ghost is an animatronic character that was created for Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The character is depicted as a ghost with a top hat and cloak whose head disappears from his body and reappears disembodied inside a hat box he carries. In November of 2023, the Hatbox Ghost also joined the happy haunts of the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.

We found this cupcake at Sweet on You on the Disney Fantasy
The cupcake is a chocolate cupcake with a very little bit of filling and topped with buttercream icing and a hat made of white chocolate. It is a perfectly good cupcake but the presentation with the custom hat box really puts it over the top.

The cupcake comes inside a hat box designed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line by Cake Bake Shop. The interior even has the iconic purple wallpaper from the attraction that resembles eyes and faces.
The cake was incredibly moist and delicious; however, it was a little one-note, as it is just a plain chocolate cupcake. More filling would have gone a long way to break up the monotony. The buttercream icing is very sweet, and we felt there was way too much of it.
This is a must-buy if you are a Haunted Mansion fan. The cupcake takes a really nice photo, plus the box is insanely cool. Yes, the box is cardboard, but you can bet we’ve taken it home and placed it with our Haunted Mansion items.
It is also really fantastic that Disney is partnering with Cake Bake shop to try and elevate the additional purchase items on Disney Cruise Line, as the items in the pastry case have always been a little lackluster. It is hard to justify paying extra for anything on a Disney Cruise when there’s so much food and drink included with your voyage. This was worth splurging on.
Rating out of 7: 5
Hot Tip: This was not our first day of the cruise; we found it towards the end, so we’re not sure if it was a new arrival mid-cruise or if they don’t put it out until the Halloween night of the voyage if you’re on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise.
