Solar-powered trash cans have now arrived at Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and they feature a colorful block pattern on the outside.

Solar-Powered Trash Cans Take Over Toy Story Land

Last month, we noticed plain gray solar-powered trash cans started being installed across all of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, right up to the entrance to Toy Story Land. We were concerned at the time that the plain gray design would clash with the colorful aesthetic of Toy Story Land should more solar-powered trash cans be installed, but the latest arrivals seem to have solved that problem.

The new trash cans feature a color block pattern, with a green top for the trash and recycling openings, and a triangular yellow-and-blue design at the bottom. The solar-powered panels on top are gray. “Waste” and “Recycle” have been printed on the front in white using a handwritten font.

The color block trash cans have been scattered throughout Toy Story land, placed near the entrances to the land’s several attractions and eateries.

Though most of the solar-powered trash cans at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are gray, bright green trash cans decorated with the Chinese Theatre logo can be found at the front of the park, and Sorcerer Mickey trash cans were added to the newly reimagined Animation Courtyard.

The solar panels in the tops of the cans power built-in trash compactors. The trash cans have foot pedals, but the flaps can also be pulled open. This has proven confusing for guests and Disney released an instructional video in response. Sometimes the trash cans may even go out of order.

This trash can style first debuted at EPCOT in June and Disney confirmed soon after they would be rolling out across Walt Disney World. Walt Disney Imagineering worked on the trash can designs. We have also seen the cans at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

Over by Alien Swirling Saucers, though, we noticed the original gray, purple, and green trash cans are still present. We suspect that they will likely be replaced soon.

Alien Swirling Saucers recently added the Toy Story 5 character, Lilypad, as the ride’s new DJ. Check out her debut below:
