New aerial photos from bioreconstruct on X reveal significant progress on the lengthy refurbishment of Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal Islands of Adventure, including the return of dinosaur animatronics, rebuilt paddock walls, and boats testing along the ride’s course.
Jurassic Park River Adventure Refurbishment Update

Jurassic Park River Adventure has been closed since January 5, 2026, for an extensive refurbishment involving repairs and upgrades to the attraction’s infrastructure, scenery, and dinosaur figures.
Earlier this year, aerial photos revealed that the animatronics were being dismantled for refurbishment. Now, several of those dinosaurs appear to be returning to their habitats.
One of bioreconstruct’s latest photos shows a Stegosaurus figure in the process of being reinstalled. The dinosaur’s exposed mechanical framework and black support arms are visible on a platform surrounded by tropical vegetation. Much of the figure’s exterior covering has yet to be restored, revealing the complex modern machinery beneath its prehistoric appearance.

Elsewhere in the attraction, scaffolding has been installed around the Ultrasaurus animatronic to allow Team Members to complete its refurbishment. The large, long-necked dinosaur was previously photographed with its exterior removed, exposing its internal mechanical components.

Another aerial view provides a look at the dinosaur paddock walls, which were rebuilt during the refurbishment. The tall concrete barriers separate the ride’s waterways and dinosaur habitats from nearby backstage areas.
These improvements are part of a much larger project. Previous aerial updates documented replacement work on the ride’s track and roofing, along with extensive work on the dinosaur figures and surrounding scenery.
In addition to the returning animatronics, bioreconstruct reports that ride testing is underway. During his aerial flyover, two ride boats were spotted traveling along the attraction’s course. Testing is another encouraging sign of progress, although additional work remains before guests can return.
Jurassic Park River Adventure was originally scheduled to reopen on November 20, 2026, but Universal extended the refurbishment by nearly a month.
The attraction is currently scheduled to reopen on December 17, 2026, according to the official Universal Orlando website.
Jurassic Park River Adventure opened with Universal Islands of Adventure in 1999. The water ride takes guests on a seemingly peaceful tour of Jurassic Park’s dinosaur habitats before a dangerous encounter with a Tyrannosaurus rex culminates in an 85-foot plunge.
