Disney has removed most of the pavement lighting from World Celebration Gardens in EPCOT. In addition, rolling planters have also been removed allowing guests to walk through the area.
Pavement Lighting Removal

Disney began removing the lights in August after years of issues. After two rounds of removal, about one third of the lights remain. The most recent round removed lights from the west side of the garden’s center.

The light strips have been replaced by strips of light-colored concrete decorated with sparkly flecks. The shape of the lights and now the concrete create the EPCOT logo with the central planter.

However, some of the concrete is not yet finished with the flecks, as seen in this close-up photo. It’s messy where the concrete meets the remaining plastic light covers.

There are no rolling planters in the area right now, but we expect the last third of lights to be removed soon. These remain on the south east side of the courtyard.
World Celebration Gardens opened in December 2023 and problems with the in-ground lighting began immediately. Whole sections went dark or didn’t synchronize properly with the lighting on Spaceship Earth. The plastic light covers warped and cracked, leading to areas being roped-off due to the tripping hazard. Disney tried to hold the covers down with random screws.
Despite multiple attempts to restore the lighting effect, problems persisted until Disney decided to remove the lights entirely.
The lights paid homage to the light-up pavement that was removed from Future World for its World Celebration transformation.
