Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Attraction Can Now Take On 300,000 MORE Riders Per Year

Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Attraction Can Now Take On 300,000 MORE Riders Per Year

Disneyland often closes rides to give them updates, which usually involve general maintenance and maybe some refreshed paint. But sometimes, Disney adds some NEW details to rides, updates technology, and adds a few new things. Most recently, we saw that with Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, which got some The Mandalorian and Grogu updates.

Indiana Jones Adventure

Well, Indiana Jones Adventure closed in September for some updates, and it just reopened over the weekend. So what changed with the ride? Well, for starters…a lot more spiders. Yes, spiders (but, hey, at least it’s not more snakes?). However, the ride got quite a few updates, so let’s talk about it.

So one of the first things that changed is that, according to The Los Angeles Times, the capacity of the ride has improved. Now, an additional 125 riders can get on the attraction per hour, which translates to an average of an additional 1,000 riders per week, and an additional 300,000 riders per year, taking into account downtime and an eight-hour operating day.

Disney made three changes to the ride to make this happen: the temple doors that open near the beginning of the ride now have electronic controls. The previous hydraulic doors would often malfunction and cause fewer ride vehicles to be dispatched. The new electronic doors speed up capacity. The ride vehicle also got hardware and software upgrades that improve the loading process. The ride vehicles are less likely to have parking malfunctions, meaning more ride vehicles can get through the loading process faster.

Disney also installed bigger storage pouches in the vehicles because another big source of downtime is personal belongings dropped on the ride track. The larger pouches allow riders to put all their loose items in them, which should reduce lost items and decrease ride downtime. Parts of the ride have been refreshed, too, including getting new paint and lighting. But perhaps the best improvement (or worst, considering how you feel about it) is that the ride has more spiders in one tunnel. You know, just in case you need to feel the creepy crawly vibes while riding it.

What makes these changes so interesting is that a similar ride will be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon in its new Pueblo Esperanza land. The story of the ride, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will be different, but the ride vehicles and ride track will be pretty close to those in Disneyland.  It’s likely that the changes made to the Disneyland ride will also carry over to the ride in Disney World.

In Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, Indiana Jones has discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple and is going to explore it. There are rumors, though, of a mythical creature deep within the temple, and he’s bringing us along to see if it’s real.
