Well, this is a first: we’ve spotted an out of order solar trash can after the resort-wide rollout of this new style at Walt Disney World.

Out of Order Solar Trash Can

A solar trash can located near the restrooms outside Tower of Terror is temporarily out of order. A black sign covers the opening.

Since June, Disney has been adding these new solar trash cans at each of the four theme parks. Solar panels are built into the rounded tops to power compactors inside, allowing the bins to hold more waste before they need to be emptied. The small handles on the front are for Cast Members to access the inside.

Out of order trash cans will likely become a more common occurrence with the new style.

Guest confusion about how to operate the trash cans led Disney to share an instructional video.
