The hit show, Glee, is making a comeback to Disney+ and Hulu 11 years after its last season.
‘Glee’ Reboot Coming to Disney+ and Hulu
A new season of Ryan Murphy’s Glee was greenlit for Disney+ and Hulu. Glee first premiered in 2009 and aired until the end of its sixth season in 2015. The show centers around a group of choir members from Lima, Ohio, and follows them along through the ups and downs of high school and young adulthood. Glee was also known for its many covers of songs like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Teenage Dream,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” and “Smooth Criminal.”
Disney hasn’t shared many details about what the Glee reboot will bring. One of the only things we know right now is that the show will be produced by 20th Television and can be streamed on Hulu and Disney+.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy confirmed he co-wrote a reboot script with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and discussed the return of some of the original cast to the project.
Murphy said, “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. “It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
Glee’s original cast included Lea Michelle, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Harry Shum Jr., Chord Overstreet, Mark Salling, and more.
Murphy wasn’t the only one to express excitement for this reboot. When talking with E! News about the project, Michelle said, “I love ‘Glee.’ I will always love ‘Glee.’ I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
Although, some cast members are still considering joining the reboot. To Bustle, Colfer said, “It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no. So I don’t know, but hopefully I’ll have more information, and I can actually think about it.”
