A permit from Walt Disney Imagineering seems to indicate possums will soon return to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom.

Big Thunder Possums Returning Soon

The possums were removed during the ride’s year-long refurbishment. They did not return when the roller coaster reopened earlier this year due to a clearance issue.

The permit contracts Icarus Exhibits, Inc. to “Install set elements” at the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad address. Icarus Exhibits worked on other Big Thunder Mountain Railroad set pieces.

When Disney tested the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride envelope, the possums breached the safety zone around the ride vehicle and passengers. Disney did not have time to correct the issue before reopening but promised the possums would be back.

It looks like Icarus Exhibits will soon restore the fake animals, which previously dangled from a tree over the ride track.

The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad track was completely replaced during its refurbishment. Watch our full ride POV below.
