Kathleen Kennedy recently attended Bloomberg’s annual Screentime event and shared her thoughts about being the former president of Lucasfilm.
Kathleen Kennedy Interview with Bloomberg

Earlier this year, it was announced that Kathleen Kennedy would be stepping down as president of Lucasfilm to return to producing full-time. Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan were named as her successors.
In an interview at Bloomberg Screentime, a two-day conference that brings together high-profile entertainment industry groups and figureheads, Kennedy candidly admitted that it was a bit of a “relief” to leave Lucasfilm, as these jobs are “not easy,” especially when “stepping into what George Lucas created.”
It’s a particular challenge for Star Wars as well, considering the franchise is almost 50 years old and beloved by many generations. “There’s strong opinions about what the stories should be. […] But at the same time, the challenge is to try to create something new, something original. Finding that balance is really the toughest thing.”
Kennedy notes that she is incredibly proud that The Force Awakens was able to be created, which relaunched the Star Wars franchise and inspired new stories to be created. She is also proud of the Disney+ series Andor, now critically acclaimed as one of the best live-action Star Wars productions to date, as well as The Mandalorian, which launched during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When asked if there was any project she would do-over, she said no, elaborating that she doesn’t think “you can do anything in the movie business where every single thing is going to be a perfect hit.”
Kennedy also believes that Star Wars was the “perfect acquisition for Disney” and “was something George [Lucas] wanted.” She notes that there was no other company besides Disney that Lucas wanted to sell his company to.
