Construction workers were very busy this Saturday morning as Monstropolis continues to grow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monstropolis Construction Update

Our reporter commented that it was “super loud for a Saturday” as they checked up on the construction progress, noting that it sounded like a lot of concrete work was happening out of sight.

What we can see, however, are trees! New greenery has been planted around the entrance to the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land.

A red brick facade has also been installed along the side of Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza (formerly PizzeRizzo), covering what was previously just white primer.

Finally, we noticed some apparent backtracking on this roof. It appears repair work was needed after the theming was installed, resulting in a harsh line of plain stucco along the right side of the roof.
Recent aerial shots reveal some of the work taking place out of sight of guests, including the beginnings of an octagonal fountain, the walkway to the suspended door coaster, and Dark Avenue.
Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Monstropolis is currently being constructed on the site of the former Muppets Courtyard and will open in phases beginning next year, though no opening date has been announced. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. Read more about the land’s shopping and dining venues.

Additionally, a new coaster show building is being added in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.

The new show inside The Glob theater, which previously housed Muppet Vision 3-D, is officially called Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike, with an original song from prolific musician and composer Randy Newman.

With the opening of The Magic of Disney Animation on September 14, a new Disney’s Hollywood Studios map also debuted. On the map, “Future Home of Monstropolis” is now over the former Muppets Courtyard off Grand Avenue. The new land is set to open in phases beginning next year.
