You know, we are simple people at the end of the day. We love “plastic cheese,” riding our favorite ride for the thousandth time, and waving to our favorite characters. When Universal made a simple app change, we couldn’t help but be a little too excited.

Disney and Universal apps are always updating, sometimes with major changes and sometimes with tiny things that just put a smile on our face. Check out Universal’s newest update!
You can now pick a character icon for your Universal profile! You can choose characters from Nintendo, Harry Potter, and How to Train Your Dragon.

You KNOW I’m going to be picking Po! Shrek and Universal Monsters also made an appearance.

Don’t forget about the kiddos! You’ll also get to enjoy characters from Trolls and Transformers. They really thought about the whole family with these icons.

If this sounds a little bit familiar, it’s because Disney World recently added more characters. While this is the first time we’ve been able to pick characters for Universal, we’ve been doing it for a long time at Disney World, and we still get excited when there are new characters to check out.

Disney World’s biggest app change lately has been adding artificial intelligence. Disney’s AI planning system is starting to roll out to users, and it’s drawn negative reviews from guests. Many feel AI isn’t needed in the app, and they prefer booking with their favorite travel agents.

The system can give you helpful tips and recommendations based on your preferences. For example, if you had a kiddo who loves The Lion King and is celebrating their birthday, the program might suggest staying in the Lion King rooms at the Art of Animation.

Universal hasn’t announced any AI changes to its app, but we’re always keeping an eye out to see if it follows the same idea. Keep following the Disney Food Blog for more Universal and Disney changes you need to know before your family vacation.
