New scoring has appeared across the concrete pavement outside Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT, potentially signaling more changes to the area’s aging grounds.
Coral Reef Pavement Work

During our latest visit, we spotted numerous straight cuts across the reddish pavement near Coral Reef. The intersecting lines divide the existing concrete into smaller sections, with additional cuts extending into the adjoining gray walkway.
Several cuts surround a circular manhole cover, while others cross the pavement diagonally. The scored area remains accessible to guests, with no concrete removed from this section at the time of our visit.
It’s possible the scoring could be preparation for removing and replacing additional pavement, potentially extending the seashell-embedded design recently installed outside the restaurant. However, the intended scope of the work and whether this area will receive the same treatment have not been officially confirmed.

The updated surface spotted closer to the entrance of Coral Reef Restaurant features a wavy pattern and small white shells embedded in the concrete, complementing the restaurant’s aquatic theme. The restaurant had been closed since September 8, and we were told parts of the kitchen were updated during the closure.

Nearby, rolling planters remain clustered beneath the monorail beam alongside the pavilion’s blue wave mural. A curved strip of pavement with visible white shell flecks can be seen beneath and around the planters.
