The Protection & Defense lightsaber hilt theme has been updated to version three, with new component pieces now available at Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Protection & Defense Lightsaber Hilt Theme V3
Inspired by the High Republic era of the Jedi Order, Protection & Defense is the second Savi’s Workshop lightsaber hilt theme to receive a V3 update, following Power & Control in May of this year.
The third edition of the Protection & Defense hilt theme is white and yellow gold and very different in design from its predecessor. There are ten different pieces to choose from: two emitters, four sleeves, two switches, and two pommels. Lightsabers are constructed using one emitter, two sleeves, one switch, and one pommel.
For reference, here is what the second version of the Protection & Defense hilt components looked like before the update, compared to the V3 pieces. The preceding parts were primarily silver with gold and bronze accents and fairly elaborate detailing, including an open emitter.
The emitters (left) appear to be loosely based on the first version of the Protection and Defense lightsaber theme, but with a more refined look and feel.
The sleeves, of which you can choose two, have both white- and gold-dominant designs adorned with elegant, ancient Jedi iconography, including High Republic symbols.
The switches (left) are predominantly white with textured gold accents, with a simple option (top) and one with elaborate gold fills. The pommel options (right) are either white with golden fleur-de-lis or a near solid gold with angular white accents.
Additional Lightsaber Upgrades
Along with the updated Protection & Defense hilt theme, the lightsaber blades themselves are getting a technology upgrade. According to Disney, the lightsaber chassis and blades
[have] been enhanced with brand-new features like a thermal cutting effect, a spinning effect, and deflection effects. Plus, upgraded audio quality and smoother blade activation now creates an even more immersive experience.
Additionally, the upgraded lightsabers allow for color-changing blades when used with rare cracked Kyber crystals. “A quick flick of the wrist” will switch the blade color from blue to red (or vice versa).
