The Atlantic area has been fairly quiet so far this hurricane season, until a system in the Gulf was upgraded to Hurricane Isaias on Wednesday, October 7th. Now, select parts of Florida are under a state of emergency.
WESH 2 reports that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order putting 25 counties under a state of emergency as the result of Hurricane Isaias. The following counties are included: Baker, Bay, Calhoun, Columbia, Dixie, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Suwannee, Taylor, Walton, Wakulla, and Washington.

“Today, I signed an Executive Order issuing a state of emergency ahead of potential impacts from Tropical Depression 9 (now Hurricane Isaias). This order will allow the Florida Division of Emergency Management to stage critical preparedness resources and ensure Florida is ready to respond,” DeSantis said in a statement. “Floridians should take this time to get disaster plans in place and ensure their hurricane supply kit is stocked.”

According to The Weather Channel, Hurricane Isaias is expected to become a Category 2 hurricane by Thursday night in the central Gulf. It’s projected to take a more northern path once it hits land. Parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are currently under weather warnings. South Georgia may feel the effects of the storm as well.
