Nothing can ruin your Disney World day faster than the weather, but if you’re prepared, you can still have the time of your life! Most of the time, rainstorms at Disney World don’t last all day; instead, they may only last for a few minutes or an afternoon. And take it from this Native Floridian — there are still ways to make sure you’re having fun, even in the rain.
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World this week, we need to warn you that the weather might not be your best friend. Central Florida is heading into a wet stretch of weather that might impact your plans — here’s what you need to know.
According to News 6, showers and storms are returning to Disney World on Monday, with rain chances even higher on Tuesday and Wednesday as a stalled front sets up across the area. Additionally, repeated rounds of heavy rain may lead to flooding concerns.
On Monday, rain chances range from 30% to 80%, with the highest chances for rain being from 4 PM to midnight. Stronger storms may produce lightning, 35-45 mph wind gusts, and very heavy rain. Some locations might see 1-3 inches or more of rain per hour. Not only that, but temperatures will climb into the mid-80s to around 90, with heat indices in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees.
Tuesday and Wednesday will see a cold front stall over Central Florida, with rain chances jumping to 60% to 90% each day, with the most widespread showers during the afternoon and evening. Repeated rounds of heavy rain could lead to flooding of roadways and low-lying areas.
Central Florida is under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rain chances remain above normal Thursday through Saturday, with scattered to widespread showers each day. Luckily, the cold front will bring seasonable to slightly below normal temperatures, so at least it will be a little cooler.
Our biggest tip is to not let the rain ruin your day! For the most part, the crowds will really thin out when it rains. So if you stick it out, you will likely have the opportunity to enjoy lower wait times.
The indoor merchandise areas will likely get very crowded, and wait times might initially spike. But we suggest heading towards an attraction with an indoor queue. Wet socks are the worst and can really ruin a few hours of your day. So just throw another pair in your bag in case you find yourself caught in the rain!
We know that rain gear can be a bit bulky and seem cumbersome. But bring it!! It will more than likely rain on your trip, and you don’t want to be caught in the middle of the parks with no rain gear at all. Ponchos in the parks are really expensive, and they can sell out.
We think Magic Kingdom is the best park for a rainy day simply because there are so many indoor attractions and locations. Even if quite a few outdoor rides shut down due to lightning, there are still many things to do and places to eat inside.
We’ll be on the lookout for even more weather updates you need to know about for Disney World. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and beyond!
