If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you’ll receive A LOT of perks, including free transportation to and from the parks and Disney Springs, an advanced window to book Lightning Lane reservations, and early entry into the parks before the general public! But there’s one perk that’s EXCLUSIVELY available for guests staying at some of the cheapest resorts on property!
Typically, the Deluxe Resorts will be home to more perks, including Extended Evening Hours, but not this perk — this one’s for the cheapest resorts. This perk actually begins before your vacation officially starts: at the airport. And it can take A LOT of stress and weight off your plate.
This perk is the Airport Luggage Transfer. This allows guests staying at select resorts to hand their bags off to Disney to take care of and bring to your resort for you! The steps to do so are simple: Fill out the BagCheck registration form for the Airport Luggage Transfer anytime from 30 days to one day (24 hours) before your departure flight, head to the airport and follow your airline’s procedure to drop off your luggage, and skip the baggage claim once you arrive at the Orlando International Airport — just head to your resort!
Once you get to your resort, you have a couple of options: You can either pick up your bags from Luggage Assistance and Bell Services in the hotel lobby, or you can use your in-room phone to contact Luggage Assistance and Bell Services to have your luggage delivered directly to your room. Just be aware that it can take up to four hours for your bag to arrive at your hotel from the airport, so make sure to keep all of the essentials with you in your carry-on bag.
This perk is also available when your vacation is over! So, how does it work when you check out? First, you’ll need to check in for your flight online starting 24 hours before departure. You’ll pay any necessary baggage fees via your airline’s mobile app or website. Then, you’ll drop off your luggage at the Luggage Assistance/Bell Services area between 24 hours and four hours prior to your flight’s departure time. You can either drop your bags off yourself or use your in-room phone to contact Luggage Assistance/Bell Services to have your luggage delivered directly to the drop-off area. You’ll then head to the airport, skip the check-in line, enjoy your flight, and pick up your bags at baggage claim when you arrive at your final destination.
Now, this is only available at select resorts and on select airlines. The eligible resorts include:
- Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
- Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
- Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
And the following airlines offer this service:
- American Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- United Airlines
- JetBlue
This could be a GREAT service to use if you are traveling with a large party or with children since you don’t have to worry about your bags. Your hands will be free to worry about other things; you won’t have to wait at baggage claim when you get to the airport, and, depending on the method you use to receive your bags, you may not have to use one of the large luggage carts at the resort to get your bags to your room.
However, there are some cons, including the waiting and the resort. As I stated above, it can take up to four hours for your bags to arrive at your resort. If you have a late flight, your bags won’t arrive at your room until even LATER, causing you to stay up and lose out on the precious sleep you need for your park day ahead!
And when it comes to the resorts, these are some of the cheapest you’ll find on property, which, yes, is a pro, but it also depends on what you’re looking for in a hotel. If you’re hoping to stay in close proximity to the parks, these resorts won’t be the best option for you. And those resorts that are in close proximity to the parks do not offer this service.
If you’re planning a Disney World vacation, you really have to weigh the pros and cons of this service to figure out if it’s something you’re hoping to take advantage of during your trip.
