We got a closer look at Quartz, the rare albino wallaby joey, who recently arrived at Jumping Junction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Rare Albino Wallaby Joey Quartz

When we visited Jumping Junction on Thursday, October 22, we got a new look at the joey, who was sticking close to its mother inside the pouch. This joey is all white with reddish eyes.
The baby does not have a gender yet, as it stays in Mom’s pouch until it’s mature enough to leave. Cast Members don’t remove it from the pouch to check its gender until it’s old enough.

Albinism is recessive, so Quartz must have inherited the condition from both parents. The condition means it has little to no melanin, giving it almost no color.
Albinism can result in abnormal eye development and potentially a lower survival rate, but with the animal care team at Walt Disney World, Quartz will be well cared for.

Disney did not share how old Quartz is, but wallabies spend most of their early life in their mom’s pouch, permanently leaving around 8 to 9 months. But they can stay with their mom for up to 2 years.
Check out Disney’s post, sharing more about Quartz:
Jumping Junction is a walkthrough exhibit of kangaroos and wallabies at Conservation Station. It replaced Affection Section with the debut of Bluey’s Wild World.
