We know, we know, we will often tell you that a $22 slice of cake from The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers on Disney’s BoardWalk is 100% worth it, and we’ve enjoyed several meals at the restaurant, too. This place was BUILT for special occasions, given the high prices. But now, the Cake Bake Shop also has a Happy Hour!
Monday through Thursday, from 2-5 PM, you can pop into The Cake Bake Shop for special cocktails, wines, small bites, and a specialty dessert…at a special price. Well, we recently dropped by The Cake Bake Shop to check out the Happy Hour offerings, and we’re here with a review!
Here, Happy Hour is called Cake Bake Social and features a menu with two savory bites, as well as a special dessert and signature cocktails. We started with the Pommes Frites with Signature Sauces for $11. First up, you get a pretty stacked plate of fries, and these are not your typical Disney fries. These have a nice salt and pepper flavor and are nice and crispy.
You can choose three sauces from the following: garlic aioli, lemon aioli, basil aioli, ketchup, dijonnaise, ranch, remoulade, and pimento sauce. We went with the basil aioli, lemon aioli, and garlic aioli. The basil aioli was almost like a pesto with a strong basil flavor. The lemony aioli had a nice lemony aftertaste. The garlic aioli was creamy and salty with that garlic flavor. All three were great for dipping the fries in.
We also ordered the Pimento Sliders for $16, made with certified Angus beef patties on a mini brioche bun with pimento cheese, pickles, and pimento cheese dipping sauce. The burger itself was cooked medium to medium-rare and had some pink on the inside, so keep that in mind. The pimento cheese adds a salty and creamy element, but it was hard to taste on the burger.
However, the pimento cheese dip adds more flavor if you dip your sliders into it (and yes, you MUST do this). The pickles are crunchy and add some acidity, which balances out the heavier pimento cheese.
For something sweet, we ordered the Cake Bake Cake Shake of the Day for $10. When we ordered it, the shake of the day was Gluten-Free Chocolate Popcorn. It’s VERY chocolatey and has cake pieces mixed well into the shake. The caramel sauce on top adds a bit of sweetness, while the popcorn bits are like crunchy pieces of Cracker Jacks. This is a great option if you want to stay away from gluten, but it’s also amazing for chocolate lovers.
Overall, we thought the Cake Bake Social is a great way to get some snacks, including a sweet treat, at a bit of a lower price than you might expect from this restaurant at other times of the day. So if you’ve been wanting to try the restaurant out, this might be a great option. We’ll keep an eye out for more new foodie things in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
