Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new construction permit for the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Permit

The Notice of Commencement was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering today, October 22, 2026. It permits Design Communications Ltd. to “install signage” at 201 S Studio Dr., the location of the now-closed Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel. The permit expires one year from its filing.
Design Communications Ltd. has previously worked on signage projects for Walt Disney World, most recently being permitted to work on Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The immersive cruise-style Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel opened on March 1, 2022. It was met with mixed reviews, with some sentiment among the public that the experience was overpriced for its duration and content. Later reports indicated Galactic Starcruiser never made a profit and had lower occupancy rates than expected. It closed permanently on September 30, 2023.
Disney announced in January 2025 that the hotel would be turned into offices. Since then, we’ve seen several permits filed by Walt Disney Imagineering. In August, a permit contracting Balfour Beatty was extended, and in September, a “general construction” permit was filed.
Recently, several Saja characters from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser were roaming during a private buyout event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Saja trainers were most notably known as lightsaber trainers aboard the Halcyon.
