An Instagram video shows guests crossing into a roped-off area in Disney California Adventure, ruining a popular photo spot for others.

Guests Ignore Ropes for Hollywood Land Photo Opp

As most guests understand, Disney puts up stanchions, ropes, and other barricades for a reason, from safety to sightlines. But in what seems to be a current trend, guests are considering such barriers and rules to be mere suggestions.

A recent Reel from Instagram user the.disneylanders shows a mom and her young daughter taking a photo in front of the Hollywood Land backdrop, a painted mural of Hollywood circa the 1930s rendered in a forced perspective style. PhotoPass Cast Members have guests stand several feet in front of it to correctly capture the perspective. There’s also a rope barricade to prevent guests from getting too close.

The pair in the video are standing directly against the backdrop, not only casting shadows but also potentially touching the mural. The video ends by showing them stepping back over the ropes to rejoin their party.

Text overlaid on the video reads, “The rules at Disneyland apparently only apply to people who can read,” while the audio track is from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. As the mother and her child pose, Emperor Palpatine says, “The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.”

The caption on the video reads:

Girl really thought the rope at DCA was just a suggestion 💀🏰 Entitlement or harmless fun? Should Disney ban guests for crossing the line, or are people overreacting? 👀👇

Recent Poor Guest Behavior at Disney Parks

It’s been a wild week for guests behaving badly at Disney Parks on both coasts. At Walt Disney World, guests went swimming in both the Gran Fiesta Tour in EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion and the Polynesian Resort’s Seven Seas Lagoon, while a longtime exotic-bird solicitor was confronted at Disneyland Resort.

Do you think there should be consequences for guests who cross ropes at the Disney Parks? Let us know on social media.
