Walmart has teamed up with the Muppets for “A Who Knew Carol,” a Christmas campaign inspired by The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The campaign kicked off with an ad featuring Gonzo reprising his role as Charles Dickens, alongside Rizzo the Rat. They introduce the story with similar dialogue as the 1992 film. The Muppets, including Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, sing a new version of the song “Scrooge.”

Walton Goggins portrays Ebenezer Scrooge, replacing Michael Caine. Stephanie Beatriz is his niece, a reimagined version of Scrooge’s nephew, Fred.

At the end of the first video, Statler and Waldorf’s Marley and Marley tease more ads featuring “new ghosts, for legal reasons.” A series of videos and social content will air throughout the holiday season.

“‘A Who Knew Carol’ brings Walmart’s holiday campaign to life in a way that’s playful, memorable and full of unexpected surprises all season long,” said William White, chief marketing officer. “By pairing the enduring charm of The Muppets with Walton Goggins’ humor, we’re showing that Walmart can surprise customers with the brands, gifts, deals and convenience they need to make the season even more joyful.”
