Walt Disney Imagineering Shares Final Letters to Decode S.E.A. Stolen Artifact Mystery

If you’ve been following the S.E.A. artifact theft mystery unfolding on the Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram, you can check your work against their latest post, which rounds up all the clues so far.

Society of Explorers & Adventurers Stolen Artifact

Walt Disney Imagineering has been leading fans on a digital scavenger hunt to uncover a stolen Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.) artifact teased at D23. They’ve been sharing clues, including correspondence and newspaper clippings, that seem to point to one of Disneyland’s iconic mountains: Big Thunder Mountain, and an artifact known as the Ridge Jewel. An earlier clue referenced a jewel that was discovered “in the caverns” that has a “colorful glow” in a town called “the biggest little boom,” and the last clues shared indicated that the thief used a time-traveling device. Buried within each clue were important individual letters that, when unscrambled, would reveal the name of the thief.

The hunt must be coming to an end soon, as Imagineering has shared the still-scrambled letters so you can check if you’ve figured out how to solve the mystery and bring the artifact culprit to justice.

Brilliant work so far, adventurers!

For those who did not read the first recapitulation, I’m S.E.A. Archivist Bonnie Booker and I’ve been sending Imagineering all the riddles so far.

In the next few slides, you will see a compilation of the letters and information we discovered about the thief. If you want extra time to figure out the previous riddles on your own, then there’s no need to scroll through. If you want to check your work and see if you’re on the right track, then venture forth!

Spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution if you’re still unraveling the clues!

Bonnie Booker, the S.E.A. archivist, has deduced that the known letters of the thief’s name are T, L, A, R, O, E, E, and Z, and that we know the following facts about him (or her):

  • Rejected from the S.E.A.
  • Is a prankster who leaves riddles behind.
  • Answer to each riddle is a letter.
  • Traveling through time with a device known as the Timeskipper.
  • A little full of themselves.
  • Potentially stole the Ridge Jewel.

For the uninitiated, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers is devoted to, well, adventure and exploration! S.E.A.’s mission is to reveal truths, right wrongs, and live to tell the tale. You might’ve heard of their original motto, “Exploratio continua” in Latin, or “continued exploration” in English. In the modern day, that saying is coupled with “wonder, explore, and discover.”

That also means the Society is always looking for the next blood-rushing, exciting adventure to embark on! From mounting expeditions into the unknown to chronicling the explorations of other adventurers, S.E.A. is proud to protect the artistic achievements of human society. Society members climbed the highest mountain peaks, rowed through the world’s longest rivers, and built countless imaginative inventions that expanded the organization’s ability to explore.

With humble beginnings dating as far back as the 1500s, S.E.A. was founded by a distinguished body of mariners, scientists, inventors, and artists. The Society traces its origins back to the mythic Fortress Exploration, its earliest known headquarters. Here, early explorers exchanged information about daring adventures and new inventions, and shared their collective knowledge for innovation for all.

Since then, S.E.A. has remained a hub of ingenuity and discovery, passionately dedicated to exploring what is not yet understood. To accomplish this, members meticulously document their long history—from finding lost artifacts to retracing the steps of their adventurer alumni—and embark on modern expeditions to under-researched locations. Or, to put it simply: they identify, conserve, and curate the world’s unknowns around us. After all, a mystery is only the catalyst to adventure!
