Disney has filed a permit regarding labor, material, and/or electrical work for the Glob Theater located in the upcoming Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Glob Theater Permit
Disney’s Sourcing & Procurement team filed the permit on Monday, November 2, listing Buena Vista Construction Company as the contractor. Buena Vista is Disney’s in-house construction group. This permit expires in one year.
The general description of work reads, “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” at the theater’s address of 365 Cypress Dr. Though that doesn’t give us much information, it’s likely that “construction” entails work more akin to maintenance than any grand overhaul or physical additions to the attraction.
The most recent permit for this attraction was filed back in September 2026 for new signage to be installed. An electrical work permit was previously filed in July 2026.
The Glob Theater and Monstropolis
The Glob Theater, which was once home to the former MuppetVision 3D, will hold Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sully & Mike when the land begins its phased opening in 2027.
In a first for Disney Parks, prolific musician and composer Randy Newman created an original song for the attraction. The track shares its title with the show itself, “Welcome to Monstropolis!”, which was previewed on stage during the D23 Experiences showcase.
Concept art for the show was also highlighted on stage, featuring Mike, Sulley, and several monsters from Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University before a theater audience, surrounded by musical accompaniment and flying door portals.
Monstropolis has taken over the former Muppets Courtyard, along with a new coaster show building being added as an expansion to the park in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.
Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. Read more about the land’s shopping and dining venues.
