Some of Disney’s operations, including its theme parks, TV network, and movie studio, will be affected more than others in the planned upcoming cuts. The article from Bloomberg cites “people familiar with the matter” as its sources, who said that the job cuts could stem from eliminated roles to expense reductions. They asked to remain anonymous due to internal discussions being private.

The sources also said that CEO Josh D’Amaro plans to reinvest the saved money into film and TV programming, technology, and the theme parks and cruise ship businesses. The company has promised double-digit growth in adjusted earnings per share in the current fiscal year.

A representative for Disney declined to comment to Bloomberg.

Disney has cut billions of dollars worth of costs and eliminated thousands of positions in recent years, with reductions impacting every division including ABC, Pixar, ESPN, the film studio and the experiences unit. The company had 231,000 people worldwide at the end of the last fiscal year.

At least a hundred employees from Disney’s theme park division, including Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment, were laid off at the end of October.

We reported in September that Disney’s newest Chief Executive, Josh D’Amaro, confirmed and executed hundreds of layoffs, primarily in the tech and HR departments, as the company looks to keep up with the changing economic landscape and entertainment industry.

When Josh D’Amaro succeeded Bob Iger as CEO, over 1,000 employees were laid off in April. Then, hundreds of Pixar, ESPN, and National Geographic employees were laid off in July. For context, Disney had 231,000 employees at the end of fiscal year 2025. 172,000 were based in the U.S., and 59,000 were based elsewhere. Due to the company’s theme parks business, 16% of employees are part-time, and another 8% are seasonal.

The theme parks division of the company is the largest and is the foundation of Disney’s bottom line. During the 2025 fiscal year, the theme park division made $36.2 billion in revenue, which accounted for more than 56% of the company’s total income.
