Johnny Depp, who portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow across five Pirates of the Caribbean films, has revealed he is open to returning for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Depp stated that his primary motivation for returning to the Walt Disney Studios franchise would be to ensure the series concludes properly.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight while promoting his holiday film Ebenezer, Depp addressed long-standing comments from franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer. While the actor stopped short of definitively confirming a contract is signed, he outlined the specific condition under which he would step back into the tricorn hat.
Depp stated he wants to help “send them off on a better note” if the plans for concluding the franchise are properly aligned.
Depp’s openness stems from his loyalty to producer Jerry Bruckheimer rather than Disney itself, noting his deep friendship and trust in Bruckheimer. Despite previous statements during his 2022 trial indicating he wouldn’t return, Depp affirmed he would work with Bruckheimer on anything. Bruckheimer has expressed a strong desire to include Depp, confirming active screenplay development.
In the past, Bruckheimer has stated that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be a reboot.
Although the franchise has grossed $4.5 billion, development has stalled amid creative hurdles and fallout with Disney. Disney previously considered a Margot Robbie-led spinoff before moving forward with a script by Jeff Nathanson. While not officially greenlit, Depp’s remarks signal a shift in his stance.
