Two New Animal Kingdom Treats Win Disney’s “Churro-lympics”

Who knew Walt Disney World had its very own Churro-lympics? Apparently, Disney’s culinary teams have been competing to come up with creative new ways to serve one of the most popular snacks in the theme parks, and two of the winning creations are now available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Disney recently shared the story behind the Churro-misu Cold Brew and the DOLE Whip Pineapple and Chili-Lime Churro Sundae, two new treats developed by Chef Brad and his culinary team at Animal Kingdom. Both earned gold medals in a Walt Disney World culinary competition held back in April.

The competition included culinary teams from across Disney World, asking them to put their own spin on the classic churro. The goal for Chef Brad and his team was to create something that reflected the globally inspired flavors found throughout Animal Kingdom.

And judging by the finished products, they weren’t afraid to get creative!

Churro-misu Cold Brew at Isle of Java

If you love tiramisu and iced coffee, this one might be calling your name.

The Churro-misu Cold Brew starts with sweetened Joffrey’s Cold Brew Coffee, topped with mascarpone cream and a dusting of cocoa powder. A crunchy churro finishes off the drink, bringing together the flavors of the classic Italian dessert in a way that’s a little different from your usual morning coffee.

Chef Brad explained that the team wanted to capture the familiar flavors and appearance of tiramisu while incorporating a Disney churro.

You’ll find this new drink at Isle of Java in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It sounds like a fun option for guests who need a little caffeine before tackling the park!

DOLE Whip Pineapple and Chili-Lime and Churro Sundae at Warung Outpost

Now, this next creation combines two Disney snacks that I never would have thought to put together: DOLE Whip and churros.

The DOLE Whip Pineapple and Chili-Lime and Churro Sundae features pineapple DOLE Whip topped with chili-lime marinated pineapple and cinnamon-sugar churros. The idea is to balance the sweetness of the pineapple and creamy DOLE Whip with a little heat from the chili-lime seasoning.

Chef Brad said the team wanted to combine tropical flavors with Latin-inspired ingredients, giving guests something refreshing with a bit of a kick.

The sundae is available at Warung Outpost, near Feathered Friends in Flight! in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.

I have to admit, I’m curious about this combination. DOLE Whip and churros are both great on their own, but adding chili-lime pineapple makes this one a little more adventurous.

Gold Medal-Winning Disney Snacks

Both treats earned gold medals during the Churro-lympics competition, which Disney says was designed to give its culinary teams an opportunity to experiment with new flavors and show off their creativity.

Chef Brad explained that the food at Animal Kingdom plays a role in telling the stories of the different regions represented throughout the park. Introducing new dishes gives guests another way to experience those influences beyond the attractions and entertainment.

It’s also pretty fun to think that a behind-the-scenes cooking competition at Disney World resulted in two snacks guests can actually order.

Both Churro-lympics winners are now available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, so the next time you’re visiting, you can try one for yourself.

Which would you choose: the tiramisu-inspired cold brew or the sweet-and-spicy DOLE Whip sundae? Personally, I’m leaning toward the sundae, mostly because I’m a big coffee and tiramisu fanatic!
