Tomato and Cornbread Panzanella – $5.25
First on our list is the Tomato and Cornbread Panzanella. A mixture of extremely fresh ingredients makes up this wonderful salad. The cornbread perfectly balances the vinaigrette and the tomatoes. We enjoyed this more than we expected to! The fresh cheese really makes this dish great — it breaks apart on everything and was a nice creamy addition with the strong vinaigrette pairing.
Barbecue-seared Pork Tenderloin – $6.50
Next, we tried the Barbecue-seared Pork Tenderloin. The meat was very tender and easy to cut.
It’s nicely spiced, but not overly flavored, which is a good thing due to the BBQ sauce being very potent. The sauce tasted like a basic BBQ sauce, but with a little extra vinegar kick. The veggies add a nice texture and lightness to the dish, which were fresh and nicely cooked.
Whole Lotta Melon – $4.50
Feta cheesecake with watermelon curd, pickled watermelon rind, watermelon caramel, and compressed watermelon
This was a very unusual dessert. The bottom tastes exactly like cheesecake, the pink dollops are the compressed watermelon, there are two pickled rinds and a fake chocolate swirl rind on top. Texture wise, it acts like normal cheesecake, even though it resembles the feta.
You get the cheese taste quickly, which was weird but not bad. You get the sweetness of the cheesecake then the slightly saltiness of the feta. The caramel is very subtle with a sweet kick on the tail end. The pickled rind is fine on its own, but adds a sour pucker to the dessert when you eat it all in one bite.
The compressed watermelon dollop on top has the consistency of a thick, watery yogurt. It’s bitter sweet, almost like they mixed cream cheese and watermelon juice together and hoped for the best.
You definitely get watermelon and feta in this dessert and it’s a really unique take on it, but we’d rather just have regular cheesecake. It’s really not bad, and someone brave and willing to try new things would like it.
The honey cheesecake at Honey Bee-stro might be more up your alley for something along the same lines without being too adventurous.
