2022 is the first time that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has been in Disney World since 2019! The party returned with many fan favorites, including villainous characters, a fireworks show, and — of course — lots of treats. But something had changed about this event — the PRICE.

Although the party isn’t scary, the cost to get there just might be. So does the party really live up to the price tag? Should you spend your hard-earned dollars on this event or put that money somewhere else? We’re here to help you decide. Let’s find out if Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is WORTH the COST.

We’re going to look at the price for the Halloween party, what’s included, and whether this event is right for you and your group.

Price

Tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party range in price from $109 to $199. The cost will depend on when you go — parties on weekends or closer to Halloween cost more than parties in August or on weekdays.

Last year, the After Hours Boo Bash event (which replaced Mickey’s Not-So-Scary for the year) was more expensive, costing between $129 and $199. But the last Mickey’s Not-So-Scary event (back in 2019) was cheaper than this year’s version. In 2019, tickets cost between $79 and $135.

The price for this event has been steadily increasing since the first party back in 2008. In 2016, tickets were between $67 and $105. 2010 prices were between $51 and $69.

So this year’s Not-So-Scary is officially the most expensive one yet. In fact, most of the tickets cost more than a normal Disney World park ticket (those start at $109 as well). So should you spend the extra cash on a Halloween party or put the money towards an extra day in the parks? Maybe a breakdown of what’s included at the party will help you decide.

Hours

You do get a pretty good amount of time in Magic Kingdom for this party. The party officially begins at 7PM and runs til 12AM, but party-goers can actually enter the park beginning at 4PM.

Many of the party offerings don’t begin until 7PM, but you can still hop on rides, grab some snacks, and just enjoy the park until the party starts.

Food

There are a lot of Halloween treats in Magic Kingdom for this season, but there are even MORE at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. In fact, there are 11 treats that you’ll ONLY find at this party –they aren’t available at all during the day.

Some party-exclusive treats that we really enjoyed include the Un Poco Loco Tots, the Sweet Almond Corn Cake, and the Mexican Spiced Hot “Coco” Brownie. Oh, and we can’t forget about the Worms & Dirt Funnel Cake either!

However, keep in mind that you can still find themed snacks during the day if you don’t attend the party. Some of the snacks that are available all day include Sweet Candy Corn Soft Serve Swirl Cone, the Pain and Panic Hot Dog, the Bayou Burger, and the Oh My Gourd Cupcake.

Entertainment

Also included in your party ticket is all the entertainment. The main attractions are, of course, the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and the Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks show.

There are 2 parade showings each night and 1 fireworks show. This party is the only place to see these particular parades and fireworks.

There’s also a Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular stage show, which happens on the Cinderella Castle stage.

And if you love meeting characters, you can find some pretty rare ones at this party. We said hello to George Sanderson from Monsters, Inc., Jafar and Genie from Aladdin, Tweedledee and Tweedledum from Alice in Wonderland, and more.

The Cadaver Dans (a spooky version of the fan-favorite Dapper Dans) will serenade you with Halloween songs in Frontierland…

…and don’t miss the Headless Horseman’s ride at the start of the Boo-to-You Parade. The evening is pretty packed with entertainment, so you likely won’t be bored during the party. But if you’re more interested in classic characters, you can find plenty of friends in Magic Kingdom during the day as well, so you may not need a party ticket. Mickey and Minnie, Disney princesses, Winnie the Pooh, and more characters all meet guests in this park.

Some of those rides have a Halloween overlay as well, which means there are spooky elements to the attractions. At Mad Tea Party, there are Halloween lights and fog to create a haunted atmosphere, as well as themed music.

You’ll find live pirate characters in the queue and on the attraction at Pirates of the Caribbean. Space Mountain goes completely dark for an extra scary element, and the Monsters at Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor tell Halloween jokes.

These rides are all available during the day, but those Halloween ride overlays don’t come out until the party begins at 7PM.

Crowds

The crowds at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party were also not-so-scary. Although there were a LOT of people in the park at 4PM, the crowds started to thin out when the day guests left around 6PM.

Ride wait times were fairly low the entire time — we walked right onto Pirates of the Caribbean, and Splash Mountain had no wait for a while as well. So this party could be a great way to get on some of those popular rides without hours-long waits. There’s so much to see and do during the party and there are also fewer people in the park than during the day, so the lines for rides were noticeably shorter than usual.

However, one place where you WILL find big crowds is inside gift shops. When we were there, there were a lot of people waiting to see the exclusive merchandise for the event.

There were also pretty big crowds waiting to get inside Magic Kingdom at 4PM. If you want to beat the rush, we recommend getting to the park about 45 minutes early!

Merchandise

Although there have been BIG crowds at the gift shops during the Halloween party, we have to say that there really isn’t a ton of exclusive merchandise this year. You can get a Not-So-Scary Spirit Jersey, some t-shirts, a candy bowl, and…not much else.

We haven’t seen any party-exclusive Minnie ears or MagicBands yet, and overall the selection seems a little sparse. If you’re looking for a lot of Halloween merchandise, you’re probably better off searching shopDisney — Disney’s online store.

Although there are a few exclusive items available, we’re not sure that there are enough to justify a ticket to the party when so much Halloween merch is available online and during the day as well.

Decor and More

There are a few extras around the park that you can check out. Spot Halloween decorations throughout Magic Kingdom, including Mickey pumpkin wreaths (!!) near the Cinderella Castle.

There are a few 3D photo ops, where you can step inside a Halloween-themed set to take a photo.

And PhotoPass photographers have some Halloween Magic Shots as well, so you can snap a picture and then see a spooky pumpkin or some Hitchhiking Ghosts appear in the photo later on.

Don’t forget that you can dress up for this event as well! It’s one of the only times when adults can wear a full costume into the park, and we’ve seen some pretty awesome costumes already.

Overall

Overall, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is definitely an expensive event (especially if you’re taking a big group), but there’s a lot to do during the party. Whether those activities are worth the cost will depend on your own preferences and budget!

The party is a great time to get on some popular rides with a lower wait time, which can be a huge benefit, especially if you’re not staying at a Deluxe hotel and thus can’t take advantage of Extended Evening Hours. However, there’s not a ton of exclusive merchandise this year, and many of the Halloween treats are available during the day as well.

If you want to go to the party but don’t have a lot of room in the budget, you could consider shaving off a day of your trip, and the money you save on park tickets could go towards the Halloween party tickets instead. Or check out some other money-saving tips here:

If you decide to go to the party, make sure you take advantage of everything available! You can trick-or-treat around the park to get some extra goodies; see the Hocus Pocus show, fireworks, and parade; visit characters; and try out some of the PhotoPass Magic Shots. Try to arrive well before 4PM so that you get into the park as soon as possible to take advantage of every minute.
