VIDEO: UPDATE on TRON Roller Coaster Construction in Disney World

Now that we know when the TRON roller coaster is expected to open in Magic Kingdom, we’re even more excited about this future thrill ride!

TRON Lightcycle Run

TRON Lightcycle Run has been in progress since 2017 when it was announced at the D23 Expo, and it was originally supposed to open back in 2021 for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Instead, TRON’s opening was delayed after Disney World closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ve been keeping a close eye on construction progress by taking a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Recently Disney announced that TRON would open in Spring 2023, and construction is moving along!

If you find yourself in Magic Kingdom wanting to catch a glimpse of TRON construction, the PeopleMover is the ride to visit! You can typically see Cast Members, vehicles, ride testing, and more.

In case you’ve missed past updates, we’ll bring you up to speed. So far, the canopy for the ride seems to be mostly completed, and a lot of the current construction is on the ground.

We’ve observed concrete walls erected

…and some concrete groundwork has been done too.

The area around the tunnel (where the Walt Disney World Railroad will eventually travel through) has also seen some progress. Remember that the Railroad has been closed due to TRON construction since 2018.

We’ve seen several phases of ride vehicle testing, including the full-speed launch. We continue to see vehicle testing happen more regularly too!

The nearby Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. has also been closed for construction, with the side of the building mostly stripped back to cement.

We’ll be monitoring the construction closely for more — so make sure you keep following DFB for more TRON updates. If you’re looking for more Disney World news, we’re also keeping our eyes on the plans for the return of Fantasmic!, and if you find yourself in Disney World before 2023 and you’re looking for a new thrill ride, check out Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT!
