It’s hurricane season, and Disney World can sometimes find itself directly in the path of these storms. The good news is that Disney is extremely prepared and has only closed for storms seven times in its history!

Looking gloomy in EPCOT!

All weather is unpredictable, and hurricanes are no exception. Disney still welcomes thousands of visitors from June to November during hurricane season — if you are planning on taking a trip to Disney World during this time, you’ll feel a lot better if you come prepared.

Disney makes sure to take care of their guests when their experience is altered by inclement weather, but you should still bring these 6 items, just in case!

Heavy Duty Portable Charger

Bringing a portable charger is always something we recommend you do, just because you’re going to be spending a lot of time using your phone in the parks. It’s even more important to make sure you bring one when you are traveling during a stormy season because you might end up losing electricity.

Heavy Duty Portable Charger by Kapurui

While it’s unlikely that any Disney resort would lose power due to their backup generators, there is a first time for everything. You also might be staying at a non-Disney hotel, Airbnb, or other accommodation and could find yourself without electricity. At the very least you can keep your phone powered and stay updated on the weather reports and safety recommendations. This charger by Kapurui covers a lot of bases: it can charge via solar energy, it has a fast power bank and can charge two devices at once, it has a flashlight and compass built in, and is heavy duty and waterproof. This is the perfect portable charger to have in case of an emergency!

Waterproof Shoes

Hurricanes dump a TON of water over the course of a few days. If a hurricane hits while you’re at Disney, there is a high likelihood there will be days you can still spend in the parks safely, but it will be raining or at the very least very wet. Sneakers are typically the Disney World shoe of choice due to their comfort, but they can quickly become soggy.

Crocs Classic Clog

Instead, during the rainy seasons opt for a waterproof shoe that you can still wear all day. Our pick has to be Crocs! They do waterproof & comfort like no other. These classic Crocs clogs come in a variety of colors so everyone can get their favorite. You can even get ones for your kids and little ones! Lightweight, breathable, supportive — plus you’ll be grateful they dry off quickly when those random Florida rainstorms hit.

Autograph Book

This may sound confusing, but this really does have to do with hurricanes! After closing outdoor rides, Disney World will close the parks to all guests once it is unsafe to remain outside. If you are staying at a Disney resort, you will shelter there. Every resort is different in what it offers, but they will stay staffed with Cast Members, so as long as it is safe, dining and shopping will still stay open.

Autograph Book

Along with this, resorts can have a Ride Out Crew of Cast Members whose sole job is to make sure that you are still having fun! This might involve activities such as movie nights, dance parties, or trivia games. The best thing that can happen is when they surprise guests with meet and greets with rare characters! In the past, Disney has worked hard to cheer up guests who are cooped up inside their resorts by setting up these special meet and greets in the lobbies. This could be a great chance to get the autograph from a character you’ve never seen before! If you don’t have your own Disney autograph book yet, this one has a cute Mickey Mouse design that we love.

Tablet

Disney does try their best to give you a good experience despite the weather, especially if you are evacuated from the parks and have to stay inside your hotel. Even with the activities Disney puts on it’s easy to get antsy, and kids could have a more difficult time. Also, you might not even be staying at a Disney resort, and your hotel could be a bit lacking in the entertainment department.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

That’s why we recommend bringing a tablet on your trip. In the event your kids (or even you!) start to feel yourself getting restless, your tablet has a variety of entertainment options! The tablet itself is easily transportable and won’t take up much space in a carry-on. Before your trip, download some movies and shows so they’re accessible even if you lose internet connection. This Amazon Fire Tablet has a generous 10 inch screen, perfect for sharing. You can also download books and take time reading to each other, or even add fun games that can be played with multiple people so everyone is included!

Neck Fan

This is another item we recommend everyone bring to Disney World regardless of whether or not it’s hurricane season. Staying cool and keeping yourself from overheating is extremely important when you’re spending long days outside in the sun. It can also be important when you are stuck inside and don’t have any electricity to power the air conditioning!

JISULIFE Portable Neck Fan

Again, Disney does have backup generators so it’s unlikely you will experience a loss of indoor temperature regulation. But if you’re staying off property, losing power could mean hot hotel rooms, and who can sleep in that? Bring a neck fan for yourself, like this Jisulife fan that Amazon shoppers love. It provides hands-free airflow around your neck to keep you cooler when the temperature starts to rise. While we hope that you never find yourself without AC, we believe that it’s better to be safe and prepared!

Waterproof Park Bag

On those days you’ll be in the parks while it’s raining, we recommend using a park bag that is waterproof to protect your items. Plenty of Disney World is outdoors and if you want to hit everything on your list, you can’t let a little bit of rain stop you! We also suggest actually bringing a park bag instead of just using your pockets — that’s because you should be bringing at the very least your phone, portable charger, and water bottle. There are other items we frequently recommend packing in your park bag, and you can check those out here!

TurnWay Water-Proof Sling Bag

We like this bag by TurnWay because it’s a good size to bring to Disney. It isn’t too big but will fit the necessities while leaving room for some souvenirs. Besides being waterproof, it also has a hidden security pocket, a dedicated spot for your water bottle, and a port where you can stick your charging cord out for easy access. The strap has a pocket for your phone as well as a clip to hold your sunglasses! Pick your favorite color from the selections, and you’ll be ready to weather any storm.
