It’s beginning to look like the holidays at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, as construction of this year’s gingerbread house has begun!
A team of construction workers were bringing the framework to the house into the hotel’s atrium when we stopped by.
It may look like a plain white and gold house, but soon, the exterior will be covered with gingerbread shingles and no shortage of decorations.
If you love how the resorts look for the holidays, this a particularly interesting time to check out the house, as you can see how things will likely fit together. For examples, you can see the slats on the exterior, which help the shingles look aligned.
Last year, the house was decorated in EARidescent blue and gold to celebrate Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, as seen below. Given that “The World’s Most Magical Celebration continues through this holiday season, it’s possible that look may return.
During construction, the whole area, which has a white tiled floor, is roped off.
In years past, the house has been completed by the second week of November, so things will likely move quickly over the next few days.
Of course, another tradition of the gingerbread house is all the delicious treats that are sold within. When we visited last year, they were sold a nearby table as to opposed to inside the house, though given that work was being done on the interior, it’s possible they could go back to their old position this year.
This is just the start of Walt Disney World’s preparations for the holiday season. Earlier today, we spotted the first decorations adorning Main Street, U.S.A. at the Magic Kingdom. But if you can’t wait and want to take a nostalgic look at gingerbread houses past, check out our reports from 2008, 2019 and 2021!
