Disney’s live-action remakes have received mixed reactions over the years, with complaints varying from being too close to their original inspiration to venturing too far away from the authenticity of the predecessors. Avengers: End Game directors and producer brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, have taken on the challenge of a brand new, live-action Hercules and claim the film will be “a little bit more experimental in tone, a little bit more experimental in execution.” The creators hinted at various influences, including the social media platform TikTok in their execution of a modern musical.
The project includes the creative forces of industry greats like Director Guy Ritchie, known more recently for his connection with Disney on Aladdin and the upcoming Aladdin 2, along with screenplay writer David Callaham, who you may know from his work on Wonder Woman: 1984, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as both upcoming Spiderman films set for release in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
A release date for the film, which will be translated into a musical more than 25 years after the original animation debuted, has not formally been announced.
