With the holidays quickly approaching, Disney World is getting a bit more crowded every day.
Many guests plan their trips around the holidays, too — making sure to spend Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve (or both!) in the parks. But, with waves of people heading to Disney World, there’s always a chance the parks could reach capacity with no other guests allowed in. It’s rare, but it can occur — so here’s everything that happens when a Disney World park hits capacity.
The holidays are right around the corner — but so are the Disney World crowds! If you’re heading to the parks on a busy day and are concerned it might reach capacity, fear not. We’re bringing you all the tips you might need to know for being in a Disney World park when it hits capacity.
Theme Park Entry
Disney World is still utilizing the Park Pass Reservation System, so in addition to having valid park admission, you need to make sure you’ve booked your park pass reservations for the desired date(s) of your visit. That way, you can ensure entry into the park you’ve booked since you’ve already reserved a spot.
On any given day in a Disney World park, guests with valid admission and park pass reservations are able to come and go from the park they reserved. In Magic Kingdom but forgot your water bottle in the car? You can go get it. Want to take a break from EPCOT and get a little mid-day snooze before heading back for fireworks? That’s alright, too.
The same is true even if the park you’re in hits capacity. Essentially, if you have theme park reservations on a sold-out day, you’re guaranteed entry into that park all day — regardless of whether or not the park reaches capacity.
So, if you have a Hollywood Studios park reservation on New Year’s Eve but want to leave the park and return later in the day, you’ll be able to do so even if Hollywood Studios is sold out and no more guests are allowed in. Keep in mind that the holiday season is busy and can book up quickly, so if you haven’t already made your park pass reservations, you might want to go ahead and do so!
What To Expect on Christmas Day in Disney World
Park Hopping
The story is a little bit different when it comes to Park Hopping, though — you’re not guaranteed entrance to a second park if it reaches capacity. Right now, Park Hopping is only available after 2PM, and after a guest has already scanned into their first park of the day (that they booked a reservation for).
Let’s say you started your morning in Animal Kingdom and want to hop to EPCOT after 2PM. You can come and go from Animal Kingdom regardless of capacity since you have a reservation for that park. But, since you technically don’t have a reservation for EPCOT, if you get there and the park is at capacity — you’re out of luck.
The good news is that since you do have a reservation for Animal Kingdom in this scenario, you can head back to that park and spend the rest of your day there. But, this is pretty important info to keep in mind if you’re park hopping on a busy day in Disney World.
Everything You Need To Know About Park Hopping in Disney World
What You Can Do
Don’t worry — not all hope is lost, and you don’t have to waste time and potentially get stranded at that second park. Disney is all about customer service, so if you’re getting ready to hop to another park and are worried it may be full already, there’s a phone number you can call!
Yep, just dial (407) 560-5000 to find out whether or not the parks are full before you leave your current park. This number has been used in the past to notify guests if a park is open to additional guests or not. Plus, if you call this number, you can hop to a different park if your first choice is at capacity.
