Refreshment Corner is serving three different items for the holidays at Disneyland, including a Spicy Beef & Cheese Sandwich, a Caramel-Pecan Cream Cheese Pretzel, and Butterscotch Soda. They are also supposed to offer a Peppermint Cream Cheese Pretzel, but it has not arrived yet.
Caramel Pecan Cream Cheese Pretzel – $7.59
Cream Cheese Pretzel topped with Caramel Sauce and Candied Pecans
It’s hard to improve on a classic favorite like the cream cheese pretzel. And much like another Disneyland treat staple, the churro, dressing it up with toppings and sauces doesn’t always improve it, but rarely diminishes it. This is one of those cases where it’s not greatly improved over the traditional cream cheese pretzel, but it in no way hinders the enjoyment of this treat.
The added bit of chocolate sauce brings an extra pop of sweetness and chocolatey flavor, but it doesn’t so much work with the pretzel as just kind of sit on top. The pecans barely register on the palate, leaving the cream cheese pretzel to shine through as the star once again.
Overall, we enjoyed it, and if you want an added little kick to your already delicious cream cheese pretzel, this is for you.
Spicy Beef & Cheese Sandwich – $13.79
Beef Steak, Cheese Sauce, Sautéed Peppers & Onions, and Spicy Pepper Spread on Artisan Bread. Includes a Cuties® Mandarin Orange or a small bag of Chips
This is a take on a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a rather enjoyable one. It’s nothing to shout about from the mountaintops, but it does its job, and it does it well.
The spice is not overpowering, but it is definitely registering some heat which is cooled off by the ample amount of cheese sauce.
The beef itself is thinly shaved and perfectly cooked, with peppers and onions throughout and a pepper sauce intermixed.
We were surprised at how much we enjoyed this sandwich, and we will likely be returning for more in the future.
Butterscotch Soda – $5.29
Sparkling Water with Butterscotch Syrup, Caramel Drizzle, and Cream
This was an immediate no. It’s a butterscotch Italian soda, but the butterscotch syrup that was used is stringent and tastes of chemicals, so much so that it was barely palatable.
Even with the cream mixed in, it was still that sickly sweet yet acrid taste of straight syrup. We do not recommend this drink.
The holiday season at Disneyland runs from November 11 through January 8.
