The crowds at Walt Disney World can be challenging. Over our many trips to the parks, we have learned to be courteous, kind, and compassionate, but we’ve also learned to find the humor. Here are five things that made us laugh on our last trip to Walt Disney World, and laughing always makes a trip better!
The Overtired Dad
A day at the parks and resorts in the Orlando heat can be exhausting. Recently, we kept running into dads, finding a way to nap and rejuvenate along the way. One we encountered was stretched out on a gazebo bench at our resort while his family was at the pool. He was so tired that he didn’t even notice when we entered the gazebo.
Another dad was asleep inside the hotel lobby on a couch by the fireplace while his kids shopped in the nearby store. Both were enjoying a moment of repose while their families were busy. I can’t say I blame them. I enjoyed a nice nap on the ferry boat between Disney Springs and Port Orleans Resort – Riverside myself!
The Oblivious Tourist
Have you ever been in a long line when you saw a group or couple of guests come rushing past the line all the way to the front or entrance, only to be redirected by a cast member to the back of the line that they were completely oblivious of? When they turn and see the line, their faces fall for a moment, and you feel sorry for them but find it funny that they were so excited about an attraction that they failed to see the line they were running past. I accidentally did this myself at a food kiosk once.
All the T-Shirts
Walt Disney World fans are creative. We have a good time reading all the different t-shirts at the parks. One of my recent favorites was in EPCOT, where the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind rollercoaster opened this summer. A teenage boy was wearing it, and it said, “I’m Mary Poppins, Y’all!” If you have seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, then you understand the humor of the shirt. My other favorite was worn by a woman sitting behind us on It’s a Small World. Her shirt said, “I’m done adulting, Disney.” I agreed with the shirt!
Disney Bounding and Costumes
Disney guests are also creatively entertaining with their Disney bounding outfits and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party costumes. Our favorite from this year’s party was a family that was all dressed a like as Donald Duck. Everyone in the family was dressed as the same beloved character. They were humorously cute, and we kept seeing them together and having fun throughout the event. There were a lot of other costumes that made us smile, such as a unique King Triton, the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty, and a couple of pairs of Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
Mad Dashers
The funniest thing I see every time we visit Walt Disney World is what I call the mad dashers, and I am one of them! These are the people who are at the front of the holding line at park open and who make a mad dash for a popular attraction as soon as the cast member gives the go-ahead.
We were recently in a group like this at EPCOT, dashing to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. It is so humorous to watch everyone speed walking a half mile or more to the ride. It is often people who haven’t had that much exercise in months. Theme park attractions can be incredible fitness motivators!
Next time you are at Walt Disney World, find the humor in the crowds. It will make your trip all the more enjoyable and entertaining!
