Kids are off from school, college students are home, and families are all gathering together for the holidays.
These cold winter nights are the perfect time to throw on your pajamas, get some hot chocolate, and gather the family to watch some of your favorite holiday movies.
The Santa Clause Films and Series
And if you are looking for loads of fun Christmas movies, you may want to head on over to Disney+. Classic films, new favorites, animated, live action, comedy, heartfelt — they’ve got it all covered! Starting off with a series of films a lot of us young adults grew up watching, you can find all of The Santa Clause films starring Tim Allen on Disney+.
These movies tell the story of Scott Calvin, who ends up taking over the role of Santa Claus. Each film in the series is available for streaming, and once you’ve finished those, you can start watching season 1 of the new spin-off series The Santa Clauses! This original show features many of the characters from the films and was recently greenlit for a second season!
Home Alone Films
Another classic set of films that many know and love are the Home Alone films. We know there are at least a few of our readers who have a “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal” ugly sweater in their wardrobe! Marathon these hijinks-filled movies while wondering “what job did their dad have to afford that house and all those plane tickets to France!?”
If you really want to go for a throwback movie, put on Babes in Toyland or Miracle on 34th Street. These films, from 1961 and 1947 respectively, have a vintage charm to them. You can introduce the younger ones in your family to both classics, and they might just become their new favorites! (And for those who grew up on the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street with Matilda star Mara Wilson, you can enjoy that version on Disney+ too!)
Noelle
A newer movie that has really grown on us is the 2019 release Noelle, starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader. Both play siblings whose father is none other than Kris Kringle, the current Santa Claus! While Nick (Hader) is training to fill the shoes of his father and become the next Santa, Noelle (Kendrick) is trying to find her place in their family.
Of course chaos ensues, and while the characters work to save Christmas, they also learn about themselves. This is a great family-friendly comedy to add to your Christmas watch list!
Holiday Shorts
If you like seeing your favorite Disney characters enjoying the holidays, there are plenty of holiday shorts, specials, and movies that fit the bill. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas takes you back to the world of Belle and the Beast as they get ready to celebrate the holidays. Mrs. Potts narrates the story of how an evil scheming villain almost kept the classic couple apart!
Mickey’s Once and Twice Upon a Christmas
Disney+ also has Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas and Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas. Do you remember these movies? Each once includes a variety of Christmas tales featuring Mickey, Minnie, and their friends. If you haven’t seen them before we recommend you do!
The Muppet Christmas Carol
It isn’t the Christmas season without a retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. But why settle for some standard version when you could be watching The Muppets? The Muppet Christmas Carol is a can’t-miss movie, combining the heart and meaning of the classic tale with the hilarity that Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and all their other pals bring! Watch this tonight and by Saturday you’ll be singing “after all there’s only one more sleep ’til Christmas!”
This is just the tip of the Christmas tree when it comes to all of the holiday content available on Disney+! When it’s time for movie night, just don’t forget the marshmallows for the hot chocolate.
