DELAYS and CANCELATIONS Impact Orlando Airport Ahead of Holiday Weekend

So, you may or may not have heard about this little, tiny, insignificant little ARCTIC BLAST that is currently making its way across the United States from Alaska.

See what’s in store for Disney this weekend!

Meteorologists are promising freezing temperatures this weekend, with the coldest day being Christmas Eve. And, if you’re getting ready to fly to or from Orlando, you might want to be prepared for flight delays — and potentially even cancelations.

Those who are planning on heading to Disney World (or are already there) might have already prepared for the low temperatures with layers, thermoses of hot chocolate, and dining reservations at Le Cellier for cheddar cheese soup. Something else to consider is how this weather will impact flights! Even without precipitation, these cold temperatures can prevent planes from flying (and you from getting in or out of Orlando).

Orlando International Airport

Just today, Orlando International Airport has seen over 200 delays as well as dozens of cancelations, according to Fox 35 Orlando. For Friday we are already seeing at least 12 delays and cancelations, and that’s all before 3:00 AM! Due to the snow, ice, and other inclement weather in the Midwest, many scheduled flights have been unable to take off, stranding passengers in Florida.

Nearly 200 million Americans are under some sort of winter weather advisory at the moment, so you can imagine how large this weather system is.

We hope you have clear skies!

Before your flight takes off, be sure to check the websites of the airport you are leaving from, arriving to, and your airline’s site. Currently several airlines are offering passengers to change their flights without any fees, so be sure to contact them to see what sorts of options you have. Additionally, you can read Disney’s cancelation policies to help make an informed choice on how to handle your trip. The most important thing is your safety!
