When your job can be done remotely, it can be tempting to travel during weeks when you still have to work!

Maybe your family or friends are planning a trip to Disney World, or maybe you just really want to go ride Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster before it closes for refurbishment in February.

So you’re asking, “Is it possible to work remotely from Disney World?”

The answer, of course, is yes. Even if you have to work all day during your trip, you will have your evenings free to visit the parks and dine at Disney Springs restaurants. We’re taking a look at how you can work remotely from Disney World, with some reality checks along the way!

Wifi at Disney World

The biggest requirement for more folks to work remotely is wifi, and you will find that — for free- throughout all Disney World hotel rooms. You can also count on free wifi in the convention spaces at the resorts (more on that in a moment!). There’s free wifi in the theme parks, water parks, and at Disney Springs. You will also find it at a place that may be a surprise: Fort Wilderness Campground.

Now, let’s talk about some places where you MIGHT find free wifi, but you might not — pool decks, arcades, and other spaces inside Disney World hotels. We say might here, because, well, you may have a strong signal and you may not in these areas. You’ll need to test it out depending on where you are staying and where you want to work.

But the “where” here can be problematic! Let’s look at your options.

Working Remotely Inside Your Hotel Room

Working remotely from inside your hotel room or villa is going to be your best bet. You’ll find the most reliable, and likely speediest, wifi here.

You will also find at least a small desk for working in nearly every Disney World hotel room. But do keep in mind that if you’re sharing your space all day with others, you may want to reserve a larger spot — like a family suite or villa — so that you can work without too many distractions. If your room has a balcony or patio, it’s likely the wifi will stretch outside, too!

Working Remotely In the Parks

This is where things get tricky. YES, there is wifi in the parks. No, it is not always what we would characterize as “high-speed,” not by a longshot. In addition, you’re not going to find anywhere that you are truly alone at the parks — and you may not want to lug your laptop around with you.

So if you need to hop on to take care of a thing or two in the middle of a park day, it’s probably possible. But if you’re counting on finding a quiet spot and high-speed wifi for a Zoom meeting, we wouldn’t count on it. (Also: Your co-workers are going to KNOW you’re in a Disney Park. It’s going to be loud, there are going to be crowds, and that office background image you’re using isn’t going to fool anyone. Not that you would try, right?)

Working Remotely in a Resort Hotel

A better option, if you need to work a few hours and your family is at the parks, may be to hop on the monorail or walk to a nearby resort to find a quieter spot. During mid-morning and mid-afternoon, a resort’s quick service restaurant or lounge could be pretty quiet, and there are plenty of hotel lobbies that are large enough to have some more secluded spots.

Again, though, don’t count on being totally alone. There are going to be people nearby, and if that’s going to be a disruption, you should stay in your hotel room.

You may not have realized it before, but several of the hotels at Disney World have spaces to hold conventions and meetings. They include Coronado Springs, Yacht & Beach Clubs, BoardWalk Inn, Contemporary Resort, and Swan & Dolphin.

It has been our experience that the convention areas of these hotels have small seating areas in hallways and lobby areas that can be quiet (at least while sessions are being held in the nearby rooms), and the wifi here can be faster than other resort public areas.
