There are a LOT of important dates to remember for Disney World in 2023.
TRON Lightcycle Run is opening in the spring, with Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana opening later this year. EPCOT festivals will be returning too — and it can seem like just too much to keep up with. There is one important date we think you might want to remember — here’s why you might want to be in Disney World on January 22nd.
It’s no secret that Disney World is going through some serious changes. New attractions, new restaurants, hotel renovations, and more are happening nearly everywhere you look. It’s a LOT. But, we’re here to remind you about a day you might want to mark down on your calendar as a day you may want to visit Disney World!
January 22nd will be a historic day in Magic Kingdom. At the end of the day, when the park closes — so will Splash Mountain. But this time, it’ll be for good. Disney is closing the attraction to make way for a brand new ride called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Disney first announced this change in 2020, and we’ve been keeping up with the updates and all the details Disney has shared so far.
Keep in mind that Splash Mountain in Disneyland will also be closing at some point in the future and will be transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and will reopen in late 2024. Disney has not, however, announced when Splash Mountain will be closing in Disneyland for this transformation. An update is set to be shared later.
Disney has shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”
But, all this new information means that Splash Mountain will close. Disney shared that the ride’s last operating day will be January 22nd, it will then be CLOSED starting January 23rd. As far as we know, Disney hasn’t announced any sort of special fanfare to mark the occasion, but chances are there will be plenty of folks in the parks saying their goodbyes to Splash Mountain. If you want to make sure you experience Splash Mountain before it closes in Disney World forever, make sure you visit before January 22nd.
If you want to be part of history, head to Magic Kingdom on January 22nd so you can be there when the park closes along with Splash Mountain. We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more news about the retheme of Splash Mountain and the future of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World!
