Are You Adventurous Enough To Try This Unique Snack in EPCOT?

It’s a new year, and that means it’s time for new foods, merchandise, and entertainment from the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts! We’ve been eating and drinking our way around EPCOT and checking out all the best (and worst) foods this year, and now it’s time for us to visit the Refreshment Outpost!

Refreshment Outpost

This year, we noticed some new additions to the menu as well as some returning options from the past. We’re hungry, so let’s see what the Outpost has to offer!

Menu

The menu offers the return of the Plant-Based Bratwurst as well as the Artist Palette Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookie. And, as a bonus surprise, they have DOLE Whip on the menu!

How does this booth stack up against the others? Let’s find out!

Food

In the past, we’ve recommended the Plant-based Bratwurst to our readers who are looking for a meat-free dish. The returning item has the same ingredients as last year, with spicy turmeric aïoli, coffee barbecue jackfruit, and slaw. It’s $9.50, so it’s definitely not the cheapest item you’ll find at the festival.

This is loaded!

Last year, we weren’t a huge fan of the jackfruit flavor, as it was really sweet, yet pickled, so it kind of missed the mark. On the other hand, the bratwurst and the slaw weren’t bad at all.  This year, however, we really enjoyed this plant-based option! The rich coffee flavor of the jackfruit balanced nicely with the sweet slaw, which brightened up the flavors really well.

Plant-based Bratwurst

Because it’s plant-based, the brat is very soft. It had a good flavor, but folks not used to plant-based diet might be put off by the texture. The turmeric aïoli was actually pretty mild in a good way and went well with the flavors in the brat. All in all, it wasn’t spicy hot, but very well-spiced with African flavors!

Moving on to the DOLE Whip, last year the DOLE Whip flavored served here was pineapple swirled with cherry. This year, they’ve changed it up with DOLE Whip Pineapple, Salted-Caramel Soft-Serve, or Swirl which you can get for $6.

Dole Whip!

If you’re looking for a beer to help wash down that bratwurst, Refreshment Outpost is offering two new beers, Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. Berries & Cream Sour Berliner and Left Hand Brewing Co. Wook Bait IPA,  or you can grab a returning Central 28 Beer Company Wall Art Brown Ale.

Refreshment Outpost is also one of two spots guests can pick up the Artist Palette Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookie. The cookie has been a returning option at the festivals for the past few years, and you can check out our last review of it here.

That’s everything at the Refreshment Outpost, so what did we think?

Overall

This booth is a good stop for plant-based eaters and fans of DOLE Whip. We enjoyed the bratwurst this year, and think even adventurous meat-eaters might like to give this a try!

We would definitely eat here again, but it’s probably not going to be our number one, must-try booth of the fest. But if you’re looking for something unique, Refreshment Outpost has got you covered!
