Hear ye, hear ye! The royal 100 Years of Wonder celebration is about to begin. To celebrate this grand celebration, a new Disney100 medallion has been installed on the front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, along with a star topper near the castle’s center, and statues of the Three Good Fairies from “Sleeping Beauty!”
The additions are rather subtle unless viewed up close, leaving most of the beautiful castle still visible from down Main Street, U.S.A. and even from the Partners statue.
The medallion is shaped like a shield with a shooting star circling around. It has an iridescent (not EARidescent) shimmer to it, with the Disney 100 Years of Wonder logo emblazoned right in the middle. The shooting star has many little stars in its tail.
It’s delightfully subtle yet still gives a nice photo op, at least until the banners go up.
The very center tower of Sleeping Beauty Castle also has a wishing star perched on top.
The first two of the three Good Fairies statues have been installed as well.
Flora flies to the left.
Merryweather flies to the right, meanwhile. Fauna is set to be installed right above the shield.
Still to come are the banners accenting the shield, the Merryweather statue, banners hanging off the turrets, and the torch post banners, all of which will have platinum or purple colors. Fountains have already been installed in the moat but have yet to be activated during park hours for the first time.
The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary celebration will commence on January 27th at Disneyland Resort. Guests will be able to mark this historic occasion by experiencing the grand opening of the new Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction, as well as two all-new nighttime spectaculars: World of Color – One at Disney California Adventure Park and Wondrous Journeys at Disneyland Park, right here at this very castle.
Recently, Disney announced that “Wondrous Journeys” will be the new nighttime spectacular at Sleeping Beauty Castle. The show, which runs 13 minutes, will pay homage to every Walt Disney Animation Studios film to date, taking guests on a journey filled with artistry, music, and storytelling. State-of-the-art projection effects will be seen on Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, the façade of “it’s a small world,” and the Rivers of America. On select nights, the show will add fireworks in the sky above Disneyland. It will also feature a new song, “It’s Wondrous.”
“World of Color – One,” at Disney’s California Adventure, will tell a new story of how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change. The show will also feature a new original song, “Start a Wave.”
The celebration will also feature special entertainment, food, beverage, and merchandise offerings, making it a not-to-be-missed event.
