NEWS: Lake Nona Employee Relocation Moving Forward at Disney

Plenty of changes have hit The Walt Disney Company recently, from a CEO shakeup to park updates and more.

After Bob Iger returned, many wondered what that meant for the planned relocation of thousands of Disney employees to the Lake Nona region of Orlando. At first, Iger shared he had not yet made a decision on it, but we later learned the project was still moving forward. Now, we have another update.

In 2021, Disney purchased land in the Lake Nona area of Orlando in hopes to relocate thousands of employees from California to Florida. We’ve been keeping an eye on the situation, and up until recently hadn’t seen many updates other than the occasional confirmation that the project was still in the works.

According to the Orlando Business Journal, City of Orlando records show Disney is looking for a specific parcel master plan “for the development of an approximately 1.8 million-square-foot office complex with office and flex space within the Lake Nona PD, Parcel 20A.”

The records show that specific parcel is the 60-acres of land Disney originally purchased from Tavistock Development Co. in 2021, though it was purchased via Dynamic Campus LLC, an entity related to Disney. As for the project’s status, records show the application as “open” and having been completed on January 18th.

It was previously confirmed that Disney’s plans had shifted, with a spokesperson sharing, “While a growing number of our employees, who ultimately will work at the campus, already have made the move to Central Florida, we also want to continue to provide flexibility to those relocating, especially given the anticipated completion date of the campus is now in 2026. Therefore, where possible, we are aligning the relocation period with the campus completion.”

As for now, it seems as though the relocation is still moving forward, though it will be quite a while before anything is complete. Now that Iger is back at the helm, he could change things even further, but we’ll have to wait and see.
