A LOT is going on in Disneyland right now.
The 100th anniversary is getting ready to begin in the parks, bringing with it new decorations, new food, TWO new nighttime shows, and more. On top of that, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a new attraction for Disneyland, opens soon. However, things are going to be pretty busy on March 8th, too — meaning you may want to SKIP going to Disneyland on that day.
That’s because March 8th is the reopening of Disneyland’s ToonTown! The entire land is in the process of getting a complete makeover, including “new, interactive experiences” so “families and young children can have more opportunities to play together inside Disneyland park.”
The area is being transformed to offer new play experiences, more open grassy areas, and new landscaping. This includes the first thing they’ll see when walking into ToonTown, CenTOONial Park, which will feature areas for guests to play in, as well as be the icon for the land. Disney also has special plans to turn the fountain into a “unique spectacle” at night.
Perhaps the biggest draw of the new ToonTown will be the “Dreaming Tree,” modeled after a tree that Walt spent a lot of time under when he was a boy in Marceline, Missouri, coming up with some of his grand ideas.
In addition to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the two existing attractions in ToonTown will also reopen with the updated land: Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and a reimagined Gadget’s Go Coaster. Mickey’s ToonTown houses will also be updated. A new dining location, Cafe Daisy, is also being added.
Needless to say, that’s a LOT of exciting stuff — and it’s highly likely that ToonTown’s grand reopening is going to bring serious crowds to the park. That means you’ll have to navigate crowded walkways and long lines, so if you want to go to Disneyland to check out ToonTown, maybe make a plan to go on a later date. If you are in the area on that day, though, you might be better off in Disney California Adventure, which could have lighter crowds.
If you just HAVE to visit ToonTown on its reopening day, be sure to make those park pass reservations as soon as you can — it’s likely they’ll go fast!
We’ll be covering the big ToonTown reopening on March 8th, so if you can’t be there (or don’t want to be there), be sure to stay tuned to DFB for our ToonTown coverage!
