One of our favorite outdoor kitchens available during the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is Hanami. This food booth always has fresh flavors, balancing them just right with sweet and savory. On the menu this year is nigiri sushi, udon, and of course, the popular frushi returns.

Frushi – $7.50
Strawberry, Pineapple and Lychee wrapped in Sweet Rice and Pink Soy Wrap served with Whipped Cream, Drizzled Berry Sauce and Toasted Coconut
The popular Frushi returns with a dish that’s just as pleasant as previous years. Not only does Frushi taste great, but it looks good too. The sweet rice wrapped around the different fruit made for a crisp and refreshing snack.
*NEW* Hanami Sushi – $8.00
Assorted Nigiri Sushi with Lemon-Cured Salmon, Soy-Marinated Tuna and Cured Mackerel
The tuna is stringy. It’s not fresh at all.
The salmon was okay. It tastes like something you’d get at 9 PM at Publix right before they’re about to close.
The mackerel was very fishy. Obviously, with sushi, you should expect some fishiness, but this was excessive.
All in all, they all taste like store-bought sushi. The whole thing was dry and needed soy sauce to be edible. Don’t get this.
*NEW* Creamy Shrimp Udon – $9.00
Udon Soup with Shrimp and Spring Vegetables
This is very hearty, and the sauce is super creamy.
We loved the udon noodles. We didn’t get a lot of shrimp flavor initially, as the soup tastes like alfredo sauce.
Our Japanese reporter said it reminded her of home-cooked ramen.
All in all, we enjoyed this.
*NEW* Hakushika Hana Kohaku Plum Sake: Junmai Ginjo blended with Japanese Plum ($10/bottle) – $9.00
From Hakushika: “This unique sake is made with a blend of junmai sake and Japanese plum extract. The plum extract is carefully derived from the succulent nanko variety plum produced in Wakayama Prefecture, the center of fine Japanese plum cultivation. Mildly sweet with a pleasant citrus-like acidity, Hana-Kohaku is a refreshing sake excellent on its own or paired with special dishes.”
*NEW* Nigori Dragon Fruit Sake Cocktail – $7.75
This is good! It tastes like a Kool-Aid/ Starbucks Refresher drink.
We couldn’t really taste the sake. One of our reporters said it was way too sweet. It definitely tastes very sugary. This is a dangerous hangover waiting to happen.
If you like sweet drinks, this is for you.
