“TRON Is the Tip of the Iceberg” — Disney Executive Comments on Upcoming CHANGES

Can you tell how excited we are about the opening date of TRON Lightcycle / Run in Disney World?!

TRON Lightcycle Run

We got the chance to preview the attraction and shared our thoughts here. With such an exciting attraction about to debut, we can only wonder what else might be on the horizon. According to one Disney Parks executive, TRON is just “the tip of the iceberg.”

Apparently, we aren’t the only ones counting down the days until TRON is officially open to guests — Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products chairman Josh D’Amaro is just (if not more!) excited.

It all starts on April 4th, when guests will be welcomed into The Grid on the ride’s opening day.

TRON

D’Amaro shared his excitement in an interview with the Orlando Business Journal, saying:

“Our Imagineers, our entire team, are incredibly ambitious about the experience here and how it will continue to grow and evolve. You’ve seen it come to life with the 50th anniversary coming out of the pandemic and how we stood right back up and brought back all the things people love and added new things. You have seen it at EPCOT — it’s totally transforming — and that will continue to transform.”

As far as EPCOT goes, D’Amaro is likely referring to the new coaster Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — other innovative attractions that have recently opened in Disney World.

To bring you up to lightspeed (see what we did there?), TRON is one of the fastest Disney rides in the world at nearly 60mph, and places riders in a motorcycle-riding position (though there are adaptive seats for those who need them — read more about that here!).

The coaster launches riders forward while lights, images, and other feats of Imagineering whizz by.

TRON

Tron is spectacular, and adding something of this size and scope to the most visited theme park in the world is pretty ambitious and incredible,” said D’Amaro, commenting on the looks he sees on the faces of folks who have just walked off the ride.

It might just be that look that keeps D’Amaro motivated to bring bigger and better experiences to Disney parks.

TRON during the day

“…it adds to the whole experience we offer here. But there’s no end… TRON is the tip of the iceberg of what’s coming.”

And if we’re excited about the attractions we know are coming to the Disney parks, imagine what Disney knows that we don’t yetIf you ask us, that’s even more exciting.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is underway after the recent closure of Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom (with Disneyland soon to follow…maybe), and Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana will be opening later this year at EPCOT.

Whatever new experiences and attractions are on the horizon for Disney parks, we can’t wait to find out. At last year’s D23 Expo, D’Amaro teased a few projects in early development — including a Magic Kingdom expansion with new lands and a total overhaul of DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom. As for now, these are just “Blue Sky” ideas and we haven’t heard a peep about these announcements since.

If TRON is the tip of the iceberg, we’ll be waiting to see what’s under the surface! For the latest Disney parks news and more, be sure to stay tuned to DFB!
